I call them "Dead Rastas!"

So many cool pieces of coral found on the beaches of Rum Cay... What to do, what to do... Oh well, maybe little skulls? With braided hair? For your neck?
Dead Rasta collection was born! They are different, and not for everyone, but I can say that it doesn't get much more unique than that...
You can find some of them at www.rumcay.etsy.com

My own private pet shaming post!

Since that famous site doesn't publish me, I will!
Here are some pets I love, and some pictures that make me ask myself why, but that are, at the same time, the answers to that very question.

Etsy vs ArtFire

I have been annoyed by the number of resellers on Etsy for a while, but since most of my traffic comes from Facebook, I never really looked into other online alternatives. Then today i stumbled into a blog talking about ArtFire vs Etsy, the girl was very biased against Etsy, but after further research I decided to give it a try, more so because they are letting you try it for free for 14 days.
You can check my new shop out here: Rum Cay Island Jewelry on ArtFire
And a lot more about the whole ArtFire vs Etsy here and here. I found both sites helpful.
I will come back to this topic after I see any results.

So much for my shark advocate skills!

As I was yelling at some sportfishing guys to leave the sharks in the marina alone, Ashley walks to me bearing a gift!
Ashley taking a nap because as we all know, fishing can be exhausting...

Crochet look with knots!

So I am kinda late on the whole "crochet" jewelry wagon, and since my grandmother used to make me learn crochet I am not a big fan of doing it. But nothing stops me from trying to fake it! I actually love the knots!!
The brown one has gemstones and seashells and the turquoise, wood beads and seashells.

They can be also be worn as an anklet and necklace.

Rum Cay Sites...

Kaye's Bar or Sand Floor Bar.
One of the 3 bars in the island, the owner is Kaye's mom, 80 year old Ms. Delores who is seen often having a cold beer and smoking a spliff with the guys... Operating hours is basically when they feel like opening.

City dock.

Cemetery, there are more people buried in Rum Cay than living in the island today.

Old church.

Toby's bar. It is only open when he is not drinking at the other bar.

All Ages School

Clinic, two nurses, no doctors. They have a doctor on call in San Salvador (another island,) who tries to figure out what the problem is and give instructions on how to fix it over the phone.

Rum Cay Beach Combing...

Beach Combing Necklace...
I think the my favorite part of this necklace is the sound it makes when you are wearing it.

Making Jewelry is dirty business!

Cutting shells with a wet saw (the same one used for cutting tiles) is fun but I was amazed by how messy it is.
After this day I started wearing a mask and protective glasses. I should have been using long sleeves too but it is way too hot in the Bahamas!

Rum Cay - Bahamas

Making jewelry isn't glamorous...

 Cutting shells in Rum Cay.

My heart belongs to many places...

I am a Carioca, meaning I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I grew up surfing which led me to a lot of traveling. One of my adventures landed me in Rum Cay in 2010, a small island in the Bahamas with amazing fishing, surfing and diving.

With only 60 people living in the island and drinking all day not being a great option I needed to find something to keep me occupied. I started beach combing with my dogs and soon I was learning how to play with tools, cutting, drilling and sanding the gorgeous shells I found. Now living mainly in FL but with a heart that belongs but with a heart that belongs to many places I try to share the gifts that Nature gives us in the form of beautiful jewelry and accessories.

All items are totally handmade, designed by me and always one of a kind since Nature is weird like that. :D
No sea creatures or coral were killed for the making of these pieces.
